First real post, how exciting!

Now that all of the formalities are out of the way, I suppose I will pose a few general questions I've puzzled about.

1. Even if I am not sure that I truely follow Christian beliefs, would I still be considered Christian?
2. Where did the pope come from? I'm not entirely sure when the office was created, what the restrictions are and where the idea for the position came from.
3. Lastly, for any Muslims who stumble upon this, how did Christians and Jews go from "People of the Book" to infidels? (I realize that this isn't even a somewhat normal belief, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the process behind that.)

Haha, most of these questions need a historian to answer them, rather than just a practitioner of the faith. Ah well.
